Congratulations to John Schneible for winning the best poster award during the Molecular Biotechnology Training Program (MBTP) symposium! His work on chitosan hydrogens for administering synergistic chemotherapy: experimental and computational studies has really caught the attention of the judges.
Our very own Ashton Lavoie has been selected as a finalist for the 2018 Life Science Award in Bioseparations. This award is given to an exceptional graduate student with outstanding, innovative research in bioseparations. She is invited on a fully funded trip to Darmstadt, Germany to present her cutting-edge research to a selection committee, who will then choose the winner. Finalists receive a $2,000 prize and the grand prize winner receive $10,000. Congratulations Ashton!
The National Science Foundation has awarded Dr. Menegatti a grant on Enabling Millisecond-Scale Biomolecular Dynamics. Congratulations!
Congratulations to Ryan Smith for being named NSF I-Corps Fellow at NC State Office of Technology Commercialization & New Ventures. This program helps extend the focus of scientists and engineers beyond the laboratory and accelerates the impact of projects moving towards commercialization.
Over the summer of 2018, Zidan Li worked as a visiting undergraduate researcher in Dr. Menegatti’s group as a part of the Global Engagement in Academic Research (GEAR) program. She worked on “Synthesizing and characterizing magnetically responsive polymers to engineer smart textiles” with Srivatsan Ramesh. She is a rising senior in Jilin University majoring in Biology who likes to travel and watch movies. She presented her work in the NC State Undergraduate Research and Creativity Symposium that was conducted on the 31st of July 2018. She intends to apply to a PhD program after the completion of her undergraduate degree.

From his postdoctoral work at Santa Barbara, Dr. Menegatti has filed a new patent. The field of drug delivery continues to get closer to realistic, usable materials with synergistic release schedules, and our lab is proud of its contributions. Congrats, Dr. Menegatti!

Last week, The Nonwovens Institute (NWI) announced that it will be funding research in our lab focused on developing antimicrobial textiles. These next generation nonwovens will be developed in our lab using the latest technologies and materials. We look forward to working more closely with NWI and generating great data and products.
In addition, we are proud to announce that the Kenan Institute for Engineering, Technology, and Science (KIETS) is funding research on engineering large blood vessel networks. With our history of working with blood proteins and human based materials, our lab is excited to move to this exciting new realm of research.
