Postdoc Positions in the Menegatti/Carbonell Lab

The Menegatti/Carbonell lab in the Department of Chemical & Biomolecular Engineering at North Carolina State University is seeking TWO postdoctoral candidates for a project on the removal of host-cell protein (HCPs) impurities from MAb-containing cell culture fluids in flow-through mode. The postdoctoral scholars will work on developing novel multi-modal ligands and adsorbents, as well as assembling and optimizing a continuous process for HCP removal in flow-through mode. Process development will involve (i) preparing the needed adsorbents, (ii) combining them in a process, and (iii) characterizing process performance with current bioassays and proteomics by mass spectrometry.

John Schneible Best MBTP Poster Award

Congratulations to John Schneible for winning the best poster award during the Molecular Biotechnology Training Program (MBTP) symposium!   His work on chitosan hydrogens for administering synergistic chemotherapy: experimental and computational studies has really caught the attention of the judges.

Global Engagement in Academic Research (GEAR) Student

Over the summer of 2018, Zidan Li worked as a visiting undergraduate researcher in Dr. Menegatti’s group as a part of the Global Engagement in Academic Research (GEAR) program. She worked on “Synthesizing and characterizing magnetically responsive polymers to engineer smart textiles” with Srivatsan Ramesh. She is a rising senior in Jilin University majoring in Biology who likes to travel and watch movies. She presented her work in the NC State Undergraduate Research and Creativity Symposium that was conducted on the 31st of July 2018. She intends to apply to a PhD program after the completion of her undergraduate degree.

Congratulations to Dr. Stefano Menegatti and Carol Hall in receiving funding for their joint proposal in designing and testing of Fab-binding peptides!

$1.1M NIIMBL (NIST) Research Grant

NC State receives $1.1M NIIMBL (NIST) funding to innovate downstream bioprocessing
Dr. Stefano Menegatti will lead the NCSU team in a collaborative, multi-institutional project funded by the National Institute for Innovation in Manufacturing Biopharmaceuticals (NIIMBL). The NCSU team comprises researchers in Chemical Engineering, BTEC, and Biochemistry.  The project, entitled “Identification, Characterization and Removal of Host-Cell Proteins (HCP) in Chinese Hamster Ovary (CHO) Monoclonal Antibody Biomanufacturing Processes”, focuses on developing novel, continuous methods for the purification of therapeutic antibodies, and has received a total funding of about $2.5M, of which $1.1M is awarded to NCSU.  The research effort will involve three universities, University of Delaware (Leader institution, PI: Abraham Lenhoff), NC State University (PI: Stefano Menegatti) and Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute (PI: Steven Cramer), and two major biopharmaceutical companies, Genentech and Merck.
