Huge congratulations to Ashton Lavoie for passing her doctoral thesis defense. She is the first one in the lab to complete her PhD. The title of her thesis was “Capture of Chinese Hamster Ovary Host Cell Proteins from Therapeutic Monoclonal Antibody Production Harvest by Mixed-Mode Synthetic Ligands.” Moving forward she will be working at BridgeBio Gene Therapy as a process development scientist. Way to go Ashton, we are all so proud of you!

New $27 Million Grant
$27M funding to Focus on the Future of Biomanufacturing
Dr. Stefano Menegatti and Dr. Ruben Carbonell will lead a new 5-year project funded by the Novo Nordisk Foundation. The project, “Accelerated Innovation in Manufacturing Biologics (AIM-Bio),” focuses on the developing nine new novel technologies of biopharmaceutical manufacturing including: cell factory engineering, bioreactor designs and optimization of purification of biopharmaceutical products. NC State will receive $18 million to carry out its research, and the remainder will go to Technical University of Denmark (DTU). To read more about the project click here.
